The Bengal Chamber THINK has always been an inspiring and intriguing session with Industry Stalwarts and Forerunners from various walks of life. The last session on "India's Security Priorities" on 7th January 2020 witnessed another evening of thought provoking interaction.
In his welcome address Shri B. B. Chatterjee, President, The Bengal Chamber, said it is our honour and privilege to have Shri Sanjay Mitra, Former Defence Secretary, Govt. of India amongst us for THINK Session and to discuss about India's Security Priorities and its Future. Shri Mitra while presenting the topic, spoke broadly on India's National Defence Strategy, India's Relationship with its Neighbours, Situation in South Asia and India's preparedness to deal with external threats.
While in conversation with Shri Arup Raha, PVSM, AVSM & VM (Retd.) and Shri Deb A Mukherjee, President Designate, The Bengal Chamber, Shri Mitra mentioned, that through Make in India initiative we are yet to meet up critical military needs. "We do make ships but not weapons" - 'Our leaders wanted India to be self-sufficient in critical technology in armed forces and with that aim in view, 45 DRDO laboratories were set up'. Despite that we continue to input "hi-tech equipment from abroad," admitted Shri Mitra.
Shri Arup Raha also shared his experience while dealing with Rafale fighter jet contract. The evening ended with an assurance that India as a country is well prepared to protect itself from foreign threats.
