The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized an Online Session on "Kolkata leading way for sustainable mobility" on 2nd July 2020 through Zoom platform. The Session was moderated Ms. Nayantara Palchoudhuri, Chairperson, Socio Economic Initiative, The Bengal Chamber; Hony. Consul of Norway in Kolkata and Director, Washabarie Tea Co. Pvt. Ltd.

In the session Mr. Rajanvir Singh Kapur, Managing Director, WBTC touched upon the history of E-mobility in Kolkata and also went on to speak about the electronic buses. He spoke on the heritage of the Kolkata trams. He spoke how the Electronic buses are cheaper than the diesel buses when it is purchased once, it is a profitable infrastructure.
Mr. Gautam Ray, Executive Director (HR & Admin.), CESC Limited, mentioned about the air pollution which has gone up emitting carbon dioxide because of vehicular pollution. He mentioned that how technology can take lead in the e-vehicle initiatives. He spoke about the few questions being asked on E-vehicles. Mr. Ray mentioned about the comprehensive approach towards e-vehicles, mentioning about the cost, the convenience and efficiency of the E-vehicles.
Mr. G.M. Kapoor, State Convenor, Intach, spoke about the heritage tram ride and mentioned about the various details. Mr. Kapoor requested to have an archive and Museum for the Calcutta Tramways which would be accessible to the people. He also mentioned about few details of the history of the tramways along with some landmark dates. He mentioned that the connect with the trams and Calcutta is very strong. He also spoke about the history of E-vehicles in the early 1900s.
The session ended with questions from the participants which were addressed by the esteemed panelists.
