The Bengal Chamber & The George Group of Colleges celebrated the National Sports Day through organizing an online panel discussion on "Ensuring Wellbeing of the Sports Fraternity during COVID-19 Pandemic" on 29th August, 2020 from 4: 00 p.m onward on the Zoom platform.
The session started with a Welcome address by Mr. Subrata Dutta, Chairperson, Sports Development Committee, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He mentioned that the positive visualization and Music Therapy will help not only the players but people from all walks of life to pass through this unprecedented Pandemic.
Mr. Mukul Choudhari, CEO - Jamshedpur Football Club & Chief of Sports Excellence Centers at Tata Steel during his engaging discussion said that at Tata Sports Academy they have kept regular communication with the players and organized digital exercise sessions. Competitions have also been arranged between players and they were encouraged to analyze their games so that they are well versed with the right techniques.
Mr. Indrajit Bhalotia, Renowned Sports Psychologist, emphasized maximum stress on being positive and emotional stability. He stated that apart from Skill, Physical & Mental Health, Emotional stability also plays a crucial role in the wellbeing of a sports person. This is also the time to build a strong emotional connect with our family and dear ones. Mr. Bhalotia also suggested that watching performances of the top sports professionals shall keep the young players motivated.
Mr. Shyam Thapa, Renowned Footballer, emphasized that only positive approach can help the players pass through this unprecedented time. Mr. Joydeep Karmakar, Ace Shooter, expressed his surprise on seeing the shooters of his academy regaining the fitness within a week after the 1st phase of lockdown. He also stressed on constant communication between the players, coaches, nutritionists, physiotherapist and even psychologists to keep the athletes stay focused. Dr. Pushpaketu Koner, Physiotherapist, said that this pandemic has given an opportunity to strengthen Endurance, Body Building & Agility. He encouraged the players to start cycling or practicing light exercise in the nearby places to hold back physical fitness.
Mr. Tanmay Banerjee, Director, RT Network Solutions Pvt Ltd and Member, Sports Development Committee, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry was the emcee and moderator of the programme.
