The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry organized the Think Session - An Interactive Session on "How Not to Waste a Good Crisis" with Mr. Kurush Grant, Former Executive Director of ITC, on Friday, 21st August, 2020 from 6 p.m. onward in the Zoom platform.
Mr. B.B. Chatterjee, President, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry delivered the Welcome Address. It was followed by a very interesting session by Mr. Kurush Grant. While addressing the audience, Mr. Grant mentioned that, the organisations which have supported their employees and maintained strong liaison with their various stakeholders during this pandemic, have exceptionally managed to come-out of it or fight it back. He mentioned that organisations have worked hard to keep their workforce motivated and the leadership team have played a significant role in keeping the sales force united in Pune which has emerged as an industrial hub over the years.
He mentioned the following strategies which have helped Indian corporates to survive:
▪ Train and retrain your workforce
▪ Revisit organisational structure
▪ Build cash reserves
▪ Relocate resources
▪ Re-Negotiate existing contracts
▪ Re structure your business plan according to the circumstances
▪ Engage with your customers/ important stakeholders
▪ Retain the bond
▪ Don't waste the time of your people in unnecessary meetings
Moreover he added that organisations like AMUL, ITC have handled this crisis excellently and they have not just survived but also added to their bottom-line. Some companies have seen significant increase in their sales of various commodities like microwaves, washing machines, laptops and many others. Mr. Grant ended his session with an optimistic note that 2020 is an exceptional year which gave us lessons to fight any difficult situation in near future. The session came to an end with the closing address by Mr. Anoop Hoon, Chairperson, Marketing & Brand Committee, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
