The Bengal Fashion Heritage (TBFH) 2018, 22nd December, 2018, ITC Sonar, Kolkata

The Bengal Fashion Expo was a unique initiative of The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the journey commencing in 2017 which blossomed as The Bengal Fashion Heritage (TBFH) held on 22nd December 2018 in ITC Sonar, Kolkata.

The inaugural edition showcased 'Walk the Winter in Cotton'. With great encouragement from all, the second edition, as TBFH, presented 'Walk the Winter in Silk' this year.

The Bengal Chamber, itself dating back to 1833, is synonymous to heritage. Bengal's Silk Industry has a rich history. Mulberry silk has a history of many centuries as an important rural industry and was a major item of international trade. Authentic history about it is available from the beginning of the 18th Century i.e. from the time of East India Co. who had considerable trading interest in Raw Silk. They started a Silk Reeling factory at Cossimbazar in the District of Murshidabad for the supply of Raw Silk and they used to supplement their requirements from the local reelers.

The Chamber always emphasizes on going beyond the boundaries of the conventional business and to add value to larger stakeholders.

TBFH unfolded signature creations of thirteen Designers including the first presentation on Taneira Sarees which were adorned with Tanishq Jewelleries. The ensembles were not only the testimony of the creative marvels of the gifted designers but also the creative heritage Bengal has among the weavers and artisans. The designers were Pranay Baidya, Abhishek Ray, Adarsh Ossa, Ekru, Ravi Manil for Taneira, Byloom, Shunyaa Sharbari Datta, Ayushman BOBO, Paromita Banerjee, Sayantan Sarkar, Meera Basu, Bonbibi, and Malika's Kantha Collection. The ensembles showcased batik, thread embroidery, kantha, block print, zardausi and weaves.

With this initiative, Chamber's constant effort is to preserve the heritage of Bengal in textiles and allied areas and support the livelihood of the weavers and artisans who are engaged in this sector.
