The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry and CENERS-
K (Centre for East and North East Regional Studies, Kolkata organized a one day Seminar on "Cyber
Terrorism and The Economy - A Gathering Storm" on 16th January 2019 at The Lalit Great Eastern
Kolkata.
The conference theme was conceptualized to highlight the importance of protecting the national
business interests representing both private and public sectors, from being subjected to the
crippling effects of Cyber Terrorism whether directly targeted at the economy or as a spill over
from the initial target to the economically linked entities.
Mr. M. K. Narayanan, Former Governor of West Bengal and National Security Adviser of India graced
the occasion. The Summit commenced with the addresses by Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, PVSM,
AVSM,VM, (Retd), President, CENERS-K and Chairperson, Strategic Initiative Committee, The Bengal
Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Mr. Indrajit Sen, President, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce
and Industry. Mr. Shyamal Dutta, Former Governor of Nagaland and Former Chief of Intelligence
Bureau and Mr. A. S. Dulat, Former Special Director, Intelligence Bureau & Former Chief, Research
and Analysis Wing (RAW) were also present in the programme. Shri Suresh Prabhu, Hon'ble Minister-of
Commerce and Industry, Government of India delivered the video address. The Lamp Lighting Ceremony
was made by General Shankar Roychowdhury, PVSM (Retd), Patron, CENERS-K along with other
dignitaries on the dais. Mr. Aniruddha Lahiri, Vice President CENERS-K and Former President, The
Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry moderated the Inaugural Session.
The session on "WHO are the Cyber Terrorists and their likely targets for Economic Disruption?" was
addressed by Dr.
Sundeep Oberoi, Global Head of Cyber Security Delivery, Tata Consultancy Services; Mr. C N
Raghupathi, Vice President & Head - India Business Unit, Infosys Ltd; Mr. Subrata Bagchi,
President, TCG Digital Solutions Private Limited and Mrs.
Manoshi Roy Chowdhury, Co-Chairman-Techno India Group. Dr. Gulshan Rai, National Cyber Security
Coordinator chaired the session.
The programme also featured a Panel Discussion on "WHAT methods have been adopted, so far, by the
Cyber Terrorists to target the Economy?" Lt. Gen. J R Mukherjee, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd), Vice
President (Operations), Centre for East and North East Regional Studies, Kolkata CENERS-K chaired
the discussions. The Panelists included Shri D P Tarenia, DG- Crime and Records, Government of West
Bengal; Mr. Sandeep Sengupta, Founder and Director, ISOAH Data Securities and Mr. Kaustuv Basu,
Director - Security Practice, Cognizant Technology Solutions.
The session on "WHICH sectors of the economy are most vulnerable to Cyber terrorist attack?" was
chaired by Mr. Tamal Bandyopadhyay, Consulting Editor, Business Standard. The Panelists included
Air Commodore D Vatsa, VSM, AOC, Air Force Station, Basant Nagar; Mr. Nabankur Sen, Advisor-
Infosec, Bandhan Bank Limited; Mr. Yogesh Chiplunkar, AVP, Chief Information Security Officer,
ICICI Prudential; Mr. P S Bhattacharyya, Former Chairman, Coal India Ltd and Shri Gopal Dutt, Chief
General Manager (BIS), GAIL (India) Limited.
The Panel Discussion on "HOW to Safeguard the Economy?" was addressed by Prof. Saikat Maitra, Vice
Chancellor, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology of West Bengal and Col. Pankaj Verma,
Senior Consultant, TCG Digital. Vice Admiral Pradip Kumar Chatterjee, PVSM, AVSM, NM (Retd) chaired
the discussions.
Brigadier Niladri Shankar Mukherjee, SM, VSM (Retd.), Secretary and Treasurer, Centre for Eastern
and North Eastern Regional Studies, Kolkata (CENERS-K) concluded the Session.
