Discussion Forum on Ecological Sustainability in the Industrial Region, 30th November, 2018, The Golden Retreat, Haldia.

The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in association with West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB), organized the Fourth Edition of Discussion Forum on Ecological Sustainability in the Industrial Region, on 30th November 2018 (Friday) at The Golden Retreat, Haldia. Two earlier editions were held in Durgapur and one in Haldia.

The objective of the Discussion Forum was to bring together the stakeholders of Haldia Industrial Belt, Policy Makers and Industry Leaders to brainstorm and share the best practices and cutting-edge technologies to take forward the industrial development of the State with adequate fortification towards vulnerability of ecology.

The forum focused on:
• Air Pollution
• Municipal Solid Waste Management
• Oil Spillage
• Critical Environmental Issues

Mohammed Saiful Islam, First Secretary (Commercial), Bangladesh Deputy High Commission, Kolkatagraced the Inaugural Session and addressed on "Coast and River : The link of People and Prosperity". The Inaugural Session included formal Welcome Address by Mr. Abraham Stephanos, Vice President, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industryand Managing Director, Tata Steel Processing and Distribution Limited and setting the agenda of the Forum by Mr. Aloke Mookherjea, Former President, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mr. Sudipta Kumar Mukherjee, Vice President & Plant Head, Haldia Energy Ltd. also joined the inaugural session and gave the industry perspective.

There were two Discussion Forums on "Ecological Sustainability in the Industrial Region" and "Best Practices for Ecological Sustainability in Industrial Region".

Mr. Dipti Ranjan Behra, Manager - CSR, Haldia Energy Limited; Capt Shri Prakash, Principal, Haldia Institute of Maritime Studies and Research and Ms. Mousam Choudhury, In-charge Training Department and Technical Officer, CIPET joined the first Discussion Forum which was chaired by Mr. Aloke Mookherjea, Former President, The Bengal Chamber.

Mr. Saugata Mahindar, Chief Manager - Environment Services, Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd; Mr. T K Pan, Chief Operating Manager, Exide Industries Limited; Mr. P S Goswami, Deputy General Manager, Health Safety and Environment, Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Ms. Alimala Dutta Roy, Senior Manager - Improvement, Environment and CSR and Mr. Ratan Saha, Senior Manager - Mechanical, Tata Steel Limitedgraced the second Discussion Forum, which was chaired by Mr. Abraham Stephanos, Vice President, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Managing Director, Tata Steel Processing and Distribution Limited.
