The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry in association with The Telegraph organised the Launch Undaunted - Saving the Idea of India written by Former Finance Minister Shri P. Chidambaram, on 14th March, 2019 at the Williamson Magor Hall, Bengal Chamber.

Mr. Subhodip Ghosh, Director General, The Bengal Chamber in his introductory address extended a heart-warming welcome to Shri P. Chidambaram, who, besides being a current Member of Parliament, is also an alumnus of Harvard, an erudite columnist, and also a Former Finance Minister. Mr Ghosh termed Chidambaram's latest book Undaunted as a 'contemporary record of the most important events that affected the country'.

Mr. Indrajit Sen, President, The Bengal Chamber and Mr. Dhruba Mukherjee, Vice President, ABP took the occasion to present the mementoes to Shri Chidambaram. Mr. Sen in his welcome address reminded us of Chidambaram's budget of 1997 which is still remembered as the dream budget for the Indian economy and regarded him as a stalwart in Indian politics and one of the architects of India's first generation of economic reforms.

Mr. Sundanda K. Datta Ray on being invited to moderate the interactive session took the session further. Chidambaram speaking about what drives him to write said, "I write because I am concerned what people leave behind." He stressed that the nation today is plagued by fear. A successful nation, he said must be fearless as he aptly quoted Rabindranath Tagore's Where the mind is without fear in his support. The evening unfolded a Keynote Speech by Shri Chidambaram followed by his discussion with Mr. Datta Ray and then interactive session with the audience. The topics which emerged, ranged from the country's internal vulnerabilities, issues on Jammu and Kashmir, global economy and India's economic reforms like introduction of GST and demonetization, vulnerabilities of agri-economy, the country's uniqueness as a multi-cultural and multilingual nation and many other interesting insights.

The programme featured the Kolkata Launch of the Book. An engaging interaction finally concluded with Vote of Thanks from Mr. Subhodip Ghosh, Director General, The Bengal Chamber

Shri Chidambaram signed many books, on request from the audience, at the side-lines of the programme.
