The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry organized a
very special riveting discussion "Kheladhula Adda: ICC World Cup 2019" on the upcoming cricket
World Cup 2019 on 21st May, 2019 at the Williamson Magor Hall, The Bengal Chamber Premises.
The Bengal Chamber embarked on this Adda with the hope to create a unique sporting forum for
sharing ideas and related to sports - and the ICC cricket World Cup 2019 and its many facets.
Mr. Subhodip Ghosh, Director General, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry in his welcome
speech highlighted the 227 year long bond between Kolkata and Cricket which unifies all the cricket
lovers of Bengal. The evening was the celebration of this centuries old bond through the exciting
"Adda" on cricket and more.
The panel discussion was captivating and was an "Adda" in true sense of the term. The discussions
focused on the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019, its many challenges and the fanaticism surrounding the
sport in India.
The scintillating evening was moderated by the eminent sports journalist Mr. Debasish Datta along
with the esteemed panel consisting of celebrated personalities like Mr. Abhishek Dalmiya, Honorary
Joint Secretary, Cricket Association of Bengal, Mr. Dibyendu Barua, Chess Grandmaster, Mr.
Snehasish Ganguly, Former Bengal Cricketer, Mr. Anindya Chattopadhyay, Eminent Singer & National
Award winning artist & Ms.
Kanchana Moitra, Renowned Film Actress.
The esteemed moderator along with the panellists were welcomed on the dias by Mr. Subrata Dutta,
Chairperson, Sports Committee to commence the panel discussion.
Mr. Avishek Dalmiya focused on the current challenges pertaining to cricket in Bengal and how
current administrative officials should visit England to imbibe their training procedures and
implement them. Mr. Snehasish Ganguly emphasised on the huge ability and exceptional talent of the
current cricket team of India to win the World Cup 2019. He also highlighted the strengths of our
current cricket team and how they are in the path of recreating excellence on the field. Engrossing
stories about the World Cup were shared which enthralled the audience.
Mr. Dibyendu Barua pointed out many similarities between chess and cricket. He focused on the fact
that both require huge amount of patience and perseverance to survive in the long run. Mr. Anindya
Chattopadhyay accentuated the fact that Cricket in India is a shared passion which brings millions
of cricket lovers together to support the nation. He turned
the evening mellifluent by his songs on cricket and the men in blue.
Ms. Kanchana Moitra expressed her desire to see countries like Afghanistan playing in the World Cup
since cricket transcends all boundaries unifying people across borders. This brought forward a very
unique aspect of cricket where the less developed countries should be brought in the forefront by
giving them the opportunity to be a part of the world cricket forum.
The panel discussion was followed by the Q&A session where the audience questioned the panellists
about cricket, its many facets and how steps are being taken to achieve the operational excellence
in cricket administration. The interactions and deliberations were factual and fruitful which threw
more light on the different dimensions of cricket.
The evening concluded with the felicitation of the esteemed moderator along with the panellists by
