On 8th March, 2018,the Sports Development Committee of The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised the 4thEdition of Ratnagarbha, a unique initiative to celebrate International Women’s Day.

A woman in her lifetime dons multiple roles, Motherhood being one of the most special ones. As a mother, she creates and nurtures and gifts a new generation to the country. She juggles between the roles of a provider, a disciplinarian, a friend, a teacher, a guide and many more. A woman redefines and rediscovers herself through the journey of motherhood. A mother and child relation is an epitome of unparalleled love, care and support irrespective of time, space and distance.

The Bengal Chamber through “Ratnagarbha” seeks to salute women for this colossal job of strength, struggle and beauty. The evening was dedicated to those women who have offered us the jewels of our nation. The Chamber paid special tribute to the “Mothers’ of our Leading Lights” from the sectors of Sports, Theatre, Film, Music, Visual Arts and Business.

The programme was hosted by Mr. Mir Afsar Ali, who, in his inimitable style kept the audience regaled through his cheerful interactions with the awardees and their mothers.

Mr. Subrata Dutta, Chairperson of the Sports Development Committee delivering the opening address, spoke about the invaluable contribution of women to the society as he reminisced about the love and support of his mother in his life.

The list of illustrious celebrities who received the award were:

• Sardarni Satnam Kaur, mother of Mr. Taranjit Singh, Mr. Amrik Singh &Mr. Haranjit Singh of JIS Group in the Business Category.
• Smt. Ila Rani Kundu, mother of Shri Rupchand Kundu, in the Visual Arts Category.
• Smt. Rita Porel, mother of Mr. Ishan Porel in the Sports Category.
• Smt. Bharati Chakraborty, mother of Ms. Tilottama Majumdar in the Literature Category
• Smt. Kana Acharya , mother of Shri Srikanto Acharya in the Music Category
• Smt. Papia Dam, mother of Ms. Paoli Dam

The program concluded with Mr. B B Chatterjee, Senior Vice President, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry delivering the Vote of Thanks and thereafter with a musical rendition by Aashmi.
