- Interactive Session on Development of Capital Goods Sector in the Eastern Region, 4th November 2016, IIT, Kharagpur
The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT, Kharagpur) organized a half-day interactive session with Shri Babul Supriyo, Hon’ble Minister of State, Department of Heavy Industry, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India on 4th November 2016 at IIT, Kharagpur. Shri Vishvajit Sahay, Joint Secretary, Department of Heavy Industry, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India and Prof Partha Pratim Chakrabarti, Director, IIT, Kharagpur were also present in the session.
The objective of the programme was to apprise the industry representatives about the initiatives taken by the Department of Heavy Industry, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India about setting up a Centre of Excellence in the Eastern region at IIT, Kharagpur for the development of Capital Goods Sector in the Eastern region, especially for and involving the MSMEs. The Bengal Chamber participated in the programme after being specially invited by the Department of Heavy Industry and was requested to bring a relevant delegation to the meeting at IIT Kharagpur. The Chamber had also held a meeting with Shri Sahay in Delhi.
The Government has taken this initiative in line with the Scheme of “Enhancement of Competitiveness in the Capital Goods Sector”. There were around 70 representatives from various industries. The Bengal Chamber presented its observations and suggestions on the scheme at the meeting.
