The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the Discussion Forum on “Ecological Sustainability in the Industrial Region”, with West Bengal Pollution Control Board, on 10th February 2017 at The Citi Residenci, Durgapur.
The objective of the Discussion Forum was to bring together the stakeholders of Durgapur – Asansol Industrial Belt, Policy Makers and Industry Leaders to brainstorm and share the best practices and cutting edge technologies to take forward the industrial development of the State with adequate fortification towards vulnerability of the ecology of the Region.
Shri Apurba Mukherjee, Hon’ble Mayor, Durgapur Municipal Corporation delivered the Forum Address. Shri Shashank Sethi, IAS, Chief Executive Officer, Asansol Durgapur Development Authority also joined the Inaugural Session. The Inaugural Session included the Theme Address by Mr. Aloke Mookherjea, Past President, The Bengal Chamber following the President’s Welcome Address. The Keynote Address was delivered by Dr. Kalyan Rudra, Chairman, West Bengal Pollution Control Board. Mr. A K Singh, Director (Project & Planning), Eastern Coalfield Ltd. and Mr. Mrinal Kanti Mitra, Managing Director, Durgapur Projects Ltd. addressed on ‘Ecological Sustainability in the Durgapur-Asansol Industrial Region’.
There were two Discussion Forums on “Addressing the concerns of pollution and waste management” and “Best Practices and Cutting Edge Technologies”. Mr. Milan K Mandal, Divisional Forest Officer, Durgapur; Prof. Harish Hirani, Director, Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute; Ms Nandini Choudhury, Managing Director, Green C India Consulting Private Limited joined the first Discussion Forum which was chaired by Mr. Aloke Mookherjea, Past President, The Bengal Chamber. Mr Indranil Chatterjee, Chief Operating Manager, Exide Industries Ltd.; Mr. Samir Kumar Sadhu (Project Head), Emami Cement Limited, Panagarh Grinding Unit, Panagarh; Mr. P K Biswas, Chief Manager, GAIL (India) Ltd.; Mr Indranil Chatterjee, Chief Operating Manager, Exide Industries Ltd. and Mr. Anjan Fouzdar, Environmental Engineer, WBPCB joined the latter which was chaired by Mr. Arun Kumar Mukherjee, Chairperson Emeritus, Energy and Environment Committee, The Bengal Chamber. The programme concluded with a presentation on ’Towards a Better Future: Know your Carrying Capacity’ by Mr. Sutanu Ghosh, President, The Bengal Chamber and Managing Director, Ghosh, Bose & Associates Pvt. Ltd.
