The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, along with GS Marketing Associates, organized the 15th edition of The India International Mega Trade Fair at Science City Grounds, Kolkata, between December 16 – 26, 2016.
Dr. Amit Mitra, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Finance and Excise, Commerce & Industries, Public Enterprise and Industrial Reconstruction, Government of West Bengal was the Chief Guest at the Inauguration. Others who were present at the inauguration included Mr Tint Swai, CEO, Union of Myanmar Federation of Chamber of Commerce & Industry; Mr Sutanu Ghosh, President, The Bengal Chamber; Dr Rajneesh Dubey, IAS, Principal Secretary, Dept of MSME & Export Promotion, Uttar Pradesh amongst others.
Trade fairs, conferences, business events, economic forums and exhibitions can be defined in a unified manner as sophisticated platforms for conducting business on a national and international scale. These Trade fairs are a high-impact method to disclose new products, services and trends. Everywhere in the world, the trade fair is a great stage for head to head, business-to-business communication for exhibitors and visitors from any branch of the industry. It is more than just a marketing tool as the entire marketplace is at one’s fingertips. As a source of market information they fulfill needs in a centralized way. They provide an excellent opportunity to assess opinions from clients and determine market potential, conduct research and evaluate competition, develop commercial structures by identifying new agents and distributors, and initiating joint ventures and project partnerships.
The Chamber’s main objective through this Fair is to bring Bengal to the economic forefront of our country by helping to increase the business relations between West Bengal with other States and Countries. In fact, this year, this Mega Trade Fair had Bangladesh as the Partner Country, Thailand & Afghanistan as Focus Countries, Uttar Pradesh being the Partner State and Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Rajasthan, Gujarat & Telengana being some of the States that participated in this Fair in a large way. There were 10 countries participating in the IIMTF this year - Bangladesh, Thailand, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Nepal and of course, India.
Many Departments of the Central Government like the Jute Board, Textiles and Handlooms had participated. The India International Mega Trade Fair is a golden opportunity for the participants to showcase their products in a grand exhibition setting adhering to international standards.
