The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industryorganized a career counselling camp with industry intervention in Siliguri, targeting 12th standard students, on Friday 12th May 2017 and Saturday 13th May 2017 at the campus of IIAS School of Management, Siliguri. At a time when much of our youth are unable to find their way in today’s economy, we need to do more to help ensure their success. The purpose of the session was to help students become aware of the broad range of available careers that meet the evolving needs of the workplace and to learn how to connect their interests and skills to an educational pathway that leads to rewarding opportunities in their career choice.

Prof Saikat Maitra, Vice Chancellor, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and spoke about the need to know oneself. He said that students need to identify their skills, should know about proper utilization of time and should be self-confident. Mr Subrata Dutta, Chairperson, Skill Development and Sports Committees of the Bengal Chamber and Managing Director, The George Telegraph Group focused on the seriousness of a career. He said that students must be passionate about their career and should have a defined career objective. Mr Dutta spoke about the skills sector, IT,ITES and many other courses.Mr Amitabha Dutta, Director, CMI spoke on the career opportunities and way ahead in the fields of Media, Journalism, Entertainment and many more. Mr Anirban Chatterjee, Technical Director, Infrastructure and Government Services, KPMG India gave a presentation about the skills gap and focused onhigher and technical education opportunities. Senior doctors and officials from DESUN Hospital took the session on Health. Ms Smita Ganguly of IIHM focused on Hospitality and Tourism.Mr Abhinandan De, Head - Industry Academia Task Force, BCC&I hosted the two day event at his campus.
The session was well attended and appreciated by students. More than 200 students participated.
