The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry in association with Hindustan Insecticides Limited (HIL) and Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) organized the Workshop to bring about awareness on the safe use of pesticides amongst farmers.

The Workshop was attended by around 200 farmers from different districts of West Bengal.

The Inaugural Session of this Workshop was graced by Shri Arup Roy, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Department of Cooperation, Government of West Bengal; Mr. R.K.Mondal, Deputy General Manager - Agricultural Processed Food Export Development Authority (APEDA); Dr. Sain Dass, Scientist & Advisor – Hindustan Insecticides Limited; Mr. Ajeet Verma, Manager- Seed Production, Hindustan Insecticides Limited; Dr. Pranab Chatterjee – Former Professor, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya; Mr. Satyabrata Mukherjee , Chairperson – Agriculture & Rural Development Committee, The Bengal Chamber and Dr. S. N. Khara, Deputy Director, Department of Horticulture, Government of West Bengal.

On this occasion, Shri Arup Roy, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Department of Cooperation asked farmers to purchase pesticides & bio-pesticides from registered dealers having valid license. During his speech, Shri Roy also mentioned that the farmers who work with pesticides should receive proper training for their safe use.

At the Technical Session of this Workshop, Mr. Jayanta Chakraborty, Sr. General Manager-East, Indofil Industries Limited; Dr. Suhrid Ranjan Barik, Scientist, Crop Protection R&D – Dow AgroSciences and Dr. Ajoy Kar, Former Head – Agro Division, Hindustan Unilever Limited interacted with the farmers and clarified their doubts regarding the use of pesticides.
