The Indirect Taxes Committee of The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry had organized a Certificate Course on Indirect Taxes in December, 2015. This was the 3rd batch with more than 25 participants from different sectors. The last two batches were held in 2014. There were 7 days of classes, held on Fridays (4:00 pm – 7:30 pm) and Saturdays (10.00 am – 5:30 pm) on Indirect Taxes (Excise, Customs, GST, Service Tax, CENVAT Credit Rules both Excise / Service Tax, VAT, FTP, Duty Drawback, etc.) under the overall guidance of Mr. T. B. Chatterjee, Chairperson - Indirect Taxes committee, BCC&I and & Chief Corporate Officer, Legal and Corporate Affairs, DIC India Limited. Other faculty members were Mr. Pulak Saha, Co-Chairperson - Indirect Taxes committee, BCC&I & Partner - Tax & Regulatory Services, Price Waterhouse & Co. LLP, Mr. Debasish Ghosh, Director, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India Pvt Ltd, Mr. Mrityunjay Acharjee, AVP (Corp. Tax & Internal Audit), Balmer Lawrie & Co Ltd, Kolkata, Mr. Vivek Jalan, Partner, M/s JAV & Associates, Chartered Accountants and Mr. Anjan Sircar, Consultant- Central Excise, Customs, Service Tax, Sales Tax, VAT and other Indirect Taxes, who are the experts from the industry in taxation matters. This is an extremely relevant training programme for taxation professionals for overall improvement of operational efficiency in their respective organizations. Mostly senior and mid-level executives of different organizations took part in the course.
