The programme was held as part of the on-going project of the Chamber in Birbhum as part of which the Chamber has adopted five villages near Santiniketan with the objective of infusing more efficiency in their agricultural practices and turning them into model villages. In this context a group of 30 farmers were selected from these villages for a training programme on vermicomposting, which was held at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Narendrapur.
Introductory Programme on 10th May 2016 :
Mr Ambarish Dasgupta, President of the Chamber welcomed all present at the programme and informed all that the Chamber will, in future, regularly organize such programmes for the benefit of farmers. He thanked Visva Bharati Universty and Ramakrishna Mission for their help in reaching out to the farmers.
Dr. Manas Ghosh, Principal, Agricultural Training Centre, Narendrapur also spoke on the occasion and informed farmers present about the need of this training and thanked the Chamber for its endeavour in this field. Swami Sarvagananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Ashram also spoke on the occasion and gave his blessings to the farmers who came all the way from Birbhum District.
Valedictory Session on 11th May 2016 :
Dr. Sanjeev Chopra, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of West Bengal graced the occasion and spoke about the need of such training for the benefit of the farmers and thanked the Chamber for its efforts and assured the Chamber his wholehearted support in such endeavours in future. After the meeting, Dr. Chopra issued the Certificate of Training on Vermicompost Culture to the farmers.
