- East & North East Skill Development Summit 2015 – “Skilled India”: Mapping the way forward- Focusing E & NE, 4th February 2015, Chamber Premises

The Bengal Chamber endeavours to act as a nodal agency in West Bengal functioning as a body for advocacy and dissemination of information on skills, identifying opportunities and gaps in areas of skills, work with local bodies and facilitate the imparting of skills including the desired outcomes in terms of linking skilled youth and the jobs best suited for them.
In this context, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the ‘East and North East Skill Development Summit 2015’ which was held on 4th February 2015, in association with NSDC. It was especially organized to deliberate upon the new avenues and challenges in achieving the target of 500 million skilled employees by 2020. The Government of India has adopted skill development as a national priority. In sync with the Government’s plan, the Bengal Chamber organized this Summit with an objective of focusing on scripting the future roadmap in defining the role of all relevant stakeholders for empowering individuals towards realizing a better India and analyzing the various strategies, ways and means and international best practices for sustaining various skill development initiatives. The Summit also explored how innovation, technology and strategies adopted by the industries and the Government could be instrumental for achieving the goal of “Skill India”.
The Summit witnessed the presence of Mr. Atul Bhatnaghar, COO, NSDC; Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh, Hon’ble Minister, Department of Labour, Government of Meghalaya; Ms. Jyotsna Sitling, IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India; Dr. Parijat De, Director, Technical Education & Training, Government of West Bengal and Mr. Krishi Dutt, GM - Tailoring Circle, Raymond Ltd., among other dignitaries.
Later in the evening, Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh addressed members of the Managing Committee of the Bengal Chamber at their monthly board meeting. She spoke about the general state of affairs in her State, Meghalaya, and interacted with the Bengal Chamber Board on issues of governance, economic opportunities and the state of investments and enabling infrastructure.
