- The Bengal Chamber presents a special forum on Education @ West Bengal - Vision and Thoughts of the Education Commission, 19th March 2015, Chamber premises

The Education Committee of the Bengal Chamber organized a special forum on “Education @ West Bengal- Vision and Thoughts of the Education Commission” on 19th March 2015 in the Chamber premises. The session focused on value-based excellence in education which will lead to employment and entrepreneurship and put forward its thoughts and visions for creating and promoting not only industry-ready personnel but also “Life Ready Professionals”. Dr. Alok Roy, President, The Bengal Chamber said that with the vision envisaged in the preliminary report of the Education Commission of West Bengal, the Chamber also endeavours to become the forum for bringing together the best minds in the education sphere to adopt a strategy for progress of education through strengthening the four pillars of education - Excellence, Employability, Inclusiveness and Value-Based Education.
Prof. (Dr.) Samir Kumar Brahmachari, Chairman, West Bengal Education Commission, Government of West Bengal, Department of Higher Education, in his address said that excellence will grow somehow but employability will not grow because it needs organization, it needs process, it needs structure. He thinks at this moment Bengal’s biggest challenge is employability. So therefore, any Education Committee report that is prepared should also focus on employability. Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Roy, Director, IIEST Shibpur also addressed the issues of inclusiveness and the need to identify excellence. Prof. (Dr.) R P Banerjee, Director & Dean, Eastern Institute for Integrated Learning in Management (EIILM) & Chairperson, Higher Education Task Force, BCC&I addressed on the Vision of Education and the current needs of the education system.
It was through this platform that the Education Committee of the Chamber presented the vision and mission plan of the Chamber in the realm of Higher Education and Vocational Education. Mr. Aloke Mookherjea, Chairman Emeritus, Education Committee & Past President, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry presented the road map created by the Chamber and shared the plan of action to be taken up. The forum was well attended by media, industry professionals, academia and students.
