The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCC&I) and Non Resident Overseas Association of Bengal (NROAB) organized the Investment Conclave – Business @ Bengal on 9th and 10th January 2014 in Kolkata.

27 potential investors including NRIs and overseas nationals joined the delegation to attend the Conclave.

The Conclave featured Seminar and B2B Meetings on 9th January 2014 in the Chamber followed by Networking Dinner and Cocktails at The Tollygunge Club.

THE SEMINAR ON 9TH JANUARY 2014 IN THE CHAMBER:

Dr. Amit Mitra, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Commerce and Industries, Industrial Reconstruction, Public Enterprise, Finance and Excise was the Chief Guest. Smt. Chandrima Bhattacharya, Hon’ble Minister-of-State, Law & Judicial (Independent Charge) and Health & Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal and Shri Subrata Saha, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Food Processing Industries and Horticulture, Government of West Bengal also graced the Inaugural Session as Guests of Honour. Other speakers included Mr. Ambarish Dasgupta, Vice President, BCC&I and Partner and Head Management Consulting and Eastern Regional Leader, KPMG Advisory Services Pvt. Ltd; Mr. Sudip Datta, Senior Vice President & Divisional Head (Operations), IL&FS; Mr. N R Datta, Chairman and Managing Director, Camellia Group and Mr. Samit Roy, Chairman, RICE Group. The expert speakers addressed the Plenary Session on “Doing Business in West Bengal”. Dr. Krishna Gupta, IAS, Managing Director, WBIDC made a special presentation on “Business Opportunities in Bengal”. There was also a session on “Doing Business in the Middles East” which was addressed by Mr. Sudesh Agarwal, Chairman, Indian Business and Professional Council, UAE and Mr. K M Verghese, Acting President, Indian Business and Professional Network, Qatar.

B2B AND G2B MEETINGS ON 9TH JANUARY 2014 IN THE CHAMBER:

The Seminar was followed by B2B Meetings. The Seminar and the Conclave were attended by over 200 delegates who were there to explore collaborations, tie-ups, partnerships and other business opportunities. The B2B Meetings were attended by a team from WBIDC including Dr. Krishna Gupta, MD and Mr. S P Yadav, IFS, Executive Director; Dr. Rajiva Sinha, IAS, Principal Secretary, Micro and Small Scale Enterprises and Textiles, Government of West Bengal; Mr. Harsh Vardhan Patodia, President, CREDAI BENGAL, Kolkata; Mr. J. K. The overseas delegates separately had an interactive session with Smt. Chandrima Bhattacharya and Shri Subrata Saha on possible opportunities in Food Processing and Healthcare Sector.

NETWORKING DINNER AND COCKTAILS ON 9TH JANUARY 2014 AT THE TOLLYGUNGE CLUB :

A Networking Dinner and Cocktails was organized at The Tollygunge Club on 9th January 2014. BUSINESS SITE VISITS ON 10TH JANUARY 2014 :

On 10th January 2014, the delegation visited the Food Park at Sankrail and Paridhan – the Garment Park at Beliaghata. The visit to these industrial parks was organized by West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC). Some delegates from the sector of Hypermarkets also met potential suppliers of dry flowers, fresh flowers, vegetables and rice organized by Food Processing Industries and Horticulture Department of Government of West Bengal. The meetings extended till 11th January 2014 as these delegates also visited Agri Horticultural Society of India in Kolkata to explore opportunities of flower imports from here.

The Conclave brought together the potential investors (NRIs / overseas business houses) from abroad, local business leaders and policy makers at a common platform to discuss the opportunities for doing business in a resurgent West Bengal. The defining feature of the Conclave was across-the-board discussions on projects and investment opportunities between local and overseas businesses. Prime focus was on B2B meetings with the objective of materializing Joint Ventures and Collaborations.
