FOR THE YEAR 2013 - 2014

Partnering Jadavpur University and European Business and Technology Centre for a Special Session on ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS OF ENERGY CONSERVATION as part of the Lecture Series on Sustainability of Indian Energy Sector –Prospects and Challenges, 3rd May 2014, ITC Sonar, Kolkata

Jadavpur University (JU), The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCC&I) and European Business and Technology Centre (EBTC) co-branded a Special Session on “Economics and Business of Energy Conservation organized as part of the Lecture Series on Sustainability of Indian Energy Sector- Prospects and Challenges on 3rd May 2014 in ITC Sonar, Kolkata.

The Inaugural Session was addressed by Mr. P Roy, Director General, BCC&I; Prof. Abhijit Chakrabarti, Vice Chancellor, Jadavpur University; Mr. Poul V Jensen, Director, European Business and Technology Centre (EBTC) India; Shri P S Bhattacharyya, Former Chairman, Coal India Limited and currently Executive Director, Deepak Fertilizers and Petrochemicals Corporation Limited (DFPCL) and Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Government of India. Mr. Sutanu Ghosh, Co-Chairperson, Energy and Environment Committee, BCC&I and Managing Director, Ghosh, Bose & Associates Pvt. Ltd. was the emcee for the Inaugural Session.

The Inaugural Session was followed by a Technical Session on Energy Efficiency across sectors – Best Practices Sharing. Mr. Saurabh Kumar, Managing Director, Energy Efficiency Services Limited chaired the Session. Mr. Sanjay Seth, Energy Economist, Bureau of Energy Efficiency addressed “Energy Conservation in the Building Sector”. Mr. Saurabh Kumar himself covered “Energy Efficiency through Performance Contracting”. The other speakers included Mr. Debasis Gupta, General Manager (Planning), CESC Limited; Mr. Subrato Sinha, Chief Operations Manager, Exide Industries Limited and Mr. J P N Singh, Chief, Fuel Management and Energy, Tata Steel Limited. The case studies were on Power, Manufacturing and Energy Intensive Industry (Steel) respectively.

The programme also served as the curtain-raiser event for the Chamber’s annual Environment and Energy Conclave, the seventh edition of which would be held on 29th and 30th August at the ITC Sonar. The programme was attended by over 250 delegates form industry, academia, NGOs and public sector enterprises.
