The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCC&I) organized an academia-industry interactive meeting with the President of Groningen University, Professor Sibrandes Poppema and Professor Malabika Sarkar, Vice- Chancellor, The Presidency University on 27th November 2013 at the Chamber.

Professor Sibrandes Poppema applauded the excellence of the alumni of Presidency University. He also mentioned that Groningen University has been recognized as a premier institution in the world with an “Employability Ranking – 89” by the New York Times in 2012.

The two Universities want to jointly create a model of excellence, which will churn out promising students, who will work with distinction in the commerce and industry sectors. Prof. Malabika Sarkar observed that research hubs and incubation centres, associated with Universities, were needed in India.

Professor Poppema and Professor Sarkar and their teams had a candid discussion with the members of the industry. Mr. Kallol Datta, President, BCC&I; Mr. A Lahiri, Past President, BCC&I and Mr. Abhijit Sen, Past President, BCC&I; Prof. (Dr.) R P Banerjee, Chairperson, Education Committee were present amongst others.
