FOR THE YEAR 2014 - 2015

- Interactive Session on Prototype Design & Planning of Low Cost Innovative Housing, 23rd December 2014, Chamber premises

The Bengal Chamber, along with BMTPC (Building Materials & Technology Promotion Council), organized an Interactive Session to create awareness on affordable housing for EWS and LIG. The session focused on the standards and specifications for design and planning of affordable innovative green housing.
The Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Govt. of India has been promoting cost effective, environment friendly and disaster resistant building materials and technologies. With varying geo climatic and other conditions, the requirements for design of dwelling units differs from region to region. The Council is developing suggestive design for affordable housing for different regions. One of the regions identified is Kolkata and its surrounding areas. In association with IIT Roorkee, based on the study of the region, Standards and Specifications for design and planning of affordable innovative green housing is being developed by Dr. Mahua Mukherjee, Architecture and Planning Department of IIT Roorkee and her team. Mr. Kapil Arora and Mr. Bhaskar De were the two research scholars who accompanied Dr. Mukherjee on her visit to the Chamber and during her presentation.
This is a Research Project sponsored by the Building Materials & Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC) and investigated by Dr. Mahua Mukherjee, Associate Professor, Department of Architecture & Planning, IIT Roorkee.
Mr. Jayanta Mukhopadhyay, Chairman - BCC&I Infrastructure Committee and Partner, BSR & Co. LLP delivered the Welcome Address. The Session was highly interactive and was attended by Professors of Civil Engineering Department of Jadavpur University, Engineers from KMCA, renowned architects of Kolkata that included Mr. Dulal Mukherjee, representatives from West Bengal Housing Board, HUDCO, Bandhan Financial Services Ltd. and KPMG.
