Thailand Visit – 17th -18th July 2015

Dr. Alok Roy, President, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Ms. Lopamudra Dutta, Assistant Director, BCC&I met with H.E. Mr. Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Thailand, Mr. G. Balasubramanian, Deputy Chief of Mission, DPR to UN-ESCAP & Dr. Binoy George, First Secretary, Economic & Commercial, Embassy of India, Bangkok on 17th July 2015.
Mr. Shringla stated that focus of Thailand is on Eastern India with particular interest in Bengal, Bihar and the North Eastern States. The Bengal Chamber’s connect with these States would help to bridge the gap between South East Asia and the said States. He said that the Thais are creating 6 economic zones. Investors in manufacturing sector could be attracted.
The Ambassador felt that Buddhist tourism involving Kolkata would be a huge hit amongst the Thai people. The Ambassador was very keen on the Bengal Chamber’s initiative to include Kolkata in the Buddhist tourism circuit and in the restoration of the relic of Lord Buddha which is located in the Indian Museum.
A Golf Delegation on 25th September 2015 was being planned in Thailand. The Bengal Chamber would be a part of the one day India Cup and bring in two groups for playing golf in Thailand. A Thai-Indian Golf Association was to be formally announced then. Moreover, The Embassy was planning to hold a programme on SME event tentatively scheduled for November 2015 and was keen on having a SME delegation from Bengal. B2B meetings would be jointly set up by the Embassy and the Chamber. Thailand was keen on investing in India as well as in Bengal.
